Dear Ivana,

Don't worry about being in the first week's tasks! The beauty of the online environment is its flexibility. Learning happens according to one's possibilities, schedules, and interests.

You have a point. If we are thankful for what we have and if we are honest and true to our own beliefs, life can be much easier, as well as more enjoyable.

Welcome to the group!

Hi teacher and everybody. Probably none will read this text because I'm so late. The course is in the third week and only now I'm here.Let's go...My strategies to this listening is listening the everything twice, try to understand what I can and then read the text. I think is a good way.
In my entire life my belief is what my parents have been teaching to me.First of all, everyday we have to thank god for everything we have: the health, the house, the job...Also, we have to be honest. If we do all this things, the life will be easier.
I think it is what I have to say. I apologise for the text, but I'm not good in writing, especially in english writing.

José Manoel,

Wonderful to have you here with us! Don't worry! You'll catch up, and I'm glad that you could make it to our first live chat and could interact with the group (I'd say your classmates! e-mates?).

If you had no difficulty with the listening, maybe you could focus on other areas, like vocabulary development. You can look up in the dictionary the words you didn't know and add them to our class glossary in our e-learning platform.

As for volunteering, read my comment to Jozelita. Volunteering is a powerful act if you do it with the intention of giving a helping hand to the ones who need care.

Welcome to the group!

Hello people, hi teacher!
I want to know everybody as soon as possible. I've read some of my classmates (? which word could I use? class-elearnings? elearningmates?) texts and I have to say I'm very proud of this group. And I'm so aprehensive If I'm at the same level as you. And I think I'm the last again... sorry.

In other hand, I'm so happy, because I listened and understood almost everything by the first time. So, I listened and read at the same time and understood everything, except three or four words.
I've read some Isabel Allende's books. She is great. About this text, she said, essentially, that you only have what you give. With other words, she said the same thing that San Francisco had said many centuries ago. Do you remember The San Francisco Prayer?

We was asked to tell our believes. So, I'll do it.
Of course I have lots of believes. First, I agree with Isabel Allende a hundred per cent and I saw her believes with spiritis eyes. (I have to say I don't want any king of argument about this. I respect everybody's opinion.)
And I believe I haven't done my point yet. I haven't helped and haven't given all that I can and must do. This is my next step: work as a volunteer helping who needs help.

Lucas, right, never too late to speak up! Great to read your thoughts on the story. I guess that you dealt with a crucial point when you go through harsh times, looking to your inner self and learning more about yourself.

well, i gess i'm kind late hehe, but never too late to say something.
i think someone has probably said this befrore.. She talks about the impotance of her daughter in her lige and what happened when she lost her. but the main poit is what she learned about it, i mean, of course was difficult to her to deal with this loss, but, there is always somthing good you can strct from anything, like she said, experience and self-knowledge.
that's it, i think...

True, Carmen, Isabel Allende can only be a great person after suffering so much and being able to heal and help others. I couldn't even think going through what she experienced...

Great to see you here!

The first I listed many times. I try no read the text so I play the game while I listed. When I understood what Isabel tolk about, I read and I looked for the words I didn't know.
I liked the Isabel's history because I always thought so dificult is lose a child and how I would behave me if one of my cild death. I think the woman that passed for a experience and learned is a great person.

Dear Jozelita,

Yes. Maybe volunteering is one of the greatest ways to help others. It can be really a small act, but one that will truly make a difference to somebody. In the US, volunteering is really part of the "American way of life". As you mentioned, we always have time excuses for not giving a bit of us to others. So, here, I decided to volunteer at my oldest son's school. You can't imagine how the children's eyes sparkle when they realize we're there for them! I have vivid memories of their smiley faces.

So, why not get started, right?

Dear virtual friends,
at the first moment I listened the story I try to concentrate in the main ideas. Then I repeat it sometimes to be sure of some ideas that was not so clear.
I thing that the message that Isabel Allende try to show us is very deep. I imagine that many people of us think like her. But unfortunatelly we don´t act like her. There are many kind of People thinking that giving money is helping other. By the way, if they have a small time to spend with people who need helps, of course, one word means more than any value of money. I´m always thinking about be a volunteer. But I´m always saying to myself that I don´t have time to do it. Of course we have time. If we really want we´ll find a time to do it. And we usually find this time whem we feel the pain very very deep. Like when we lose somebody we love. So it´s time to wake up and star. Let´s share the love we have inside of us, the happiness, the faithful, and many other goods things we can do, without expect receiving in change. Maybe it´s a way to start.
That´s all.
